Last year, I started working on my passion project: Chess Mess.
This is a game that I work on in my spare time between client work, YouTube, making art for our previous title Dudelings, and, of course, living life.
Chess Mess was inspired by my love of puzzle games and chess.
In a game of Chess Mess, you encounter a chess board filled with a random assortment of black and white pieces (both of which you control). But here's the twist: a piece can only move when capturing another!
The goal of each stage is to beat the "King In" par score (on the right), thus summoning the Grey King. Capture the King to clear the stage and progress to the next level!
Features include:
- Five distinct difficulty levels
- Seeded board generation so you can share specific boards and compare scores!
- Multiple themes that include distinct color schemes and chess sets
- Card system which introduces buffs, nerfs, and power-ups to pieces
- Original Soundtrack (WIP)
- Steam Deck support (WIP)
Now, keep in mind that Chess Mess is still in active development and while most of the systems are feature locked, there are still many bugs and a ton of polish that I'm going to be adding before the final release. You're free to share screenshots/video capture and talk about your experiences with the game, but I'd appreciate if you mentioned that the title is still in beta.
Beta Access
I now have 250 Steam keys that will grant access to the beta. They're earmarked for $4 (or higher) Patrons.
This means any existing (or new) Patron* at the Assembly tier or higher will receive a beta Steam key (while supply lasts).
This offer ends Saturday, October 19th.
If you're a Base Two Patron, you can upgrade to the Assembly tier or higher to also received a key during this period!
Keys are delivered through Patreon's Direct Message system and note that this is an intensely manual task. Given that humans are prone to error, if you haven't received a today let me know via Patreon's DMs!
